Why 1 Gallon Per Day?

FEMA and the Red Cross recommend 1 gallon of water per person, per day. This breaks down to roughly:

  • Half a gallon (2 quarts) for drinking to stay hydrated.
  • Half a gallon for basic hygiene (wiping down, brushing teeth) and light food prep (like reconstituting freeze-dried meals).

If you live in an apartment, storing thirty 1-gallon jugs under your bed isn't realistic. That's why we suggest large-capacity, flat-folding containers like the WaterBob that fit in your bathtub at the last minute, or WaterBricks which stack perfectly like Lego blocks in the back of your closet.
